To: Double
"O" Good Clients & Fellow Alpaca Breeders
Subject: Haemonchus Contortus
Our heartfelt
sympathies go out to those breeders who have lost animals to Haemonchus
Contortus. Unfortunately, we continue to hear about farms that are
losing their precious alpacas to this horrific parasite.
We have received
several calls from concerned breeders who have been informed that
Double "O" Good has lost 30 animals recently to Haemonchus.
Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, we have lost no
animals to this parasite.
Double "O"
Good continues to conduct stringent parasite management practices
in conjunction with our veterinarians, by pulling regular fecal
samples, monitoring alpacas for anemia and ill thrift, doing monthly
Ivermectin injections, performing additional parasite treatments
as required, and enforcing established quarantine protocols for
arriving animals.
If you have
any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at
(703) 753-2398 or you can contact our veterinarians directly.
Dr.
Donna Matthews at (540)743-7298
or
Dr. William Ley at (540) 303-2336.
More information
about this parasite can be found at www.alpacawatch.com
