Falkland FarmHistoric Falkland Farm:
The Main House

The first time that you visit Falkland Farm, there’s an unmistakable sense of history about the place. The huge reddish brown and sand stone mansion, with its three gable-roofed sections, exudes a formidable presence. Built around 1800, this was the boyhood home of the notorious Nick Carter who rode with Mosby’s Raiders during his Civil War days. The rumors still abound that he had numerous hiding places in the walls.

Falkland Farm Main HouseThe mansion house is now restored to its former elegance and fully modernized. It sits in the midst of beautiful, old English gardens, stone walls and patios, and surrounded by a grove of oak trees more than 100 years old. That wasn’t true when Ernie acquired the property in 1986. It took a certain vision and commitment and the labors of four master carpenters and two stone masons over four years to restore the mansion and gardens.

The evidence of this level of long term commitment and meticulous attention to detail pervades the entire farm. As you stroll through the gardens and the alpaca paddocks, you see it everywhere. Falkland Farm in every way is a mirror reflection of the character and essence of Ernie and Barbara Kellogg. The paddocks and pastures are lush green, freshly mowed, and picture perfect - no bare spots, no weeds, not one uncut blade of grass. Three-board, freshly painted black wooden fences encase the many paddocks. This same sense of commitment and attention to every detail shows in their alpacas as well.

When you decide that it’s time to search for that perfect herd sire or female alpaca to augment your breeding program, Falkland Farm should top your list of stopping places. Treat yourself to a little Southern hospitality. The farm alone is enough to justify a visit, but until you've been nuzzled a few times, you haven’t seen all that an alpaca can be.
